hdbeat.com — We streamed HDTV to our Xbox 360 over WiFi on an 802.11g network but we're never satisfied. We forked over some dough and added an 802.11a router to the mix. Did it help? Check out our test from the WMCE PC to our Xbox 360 via WiFi!

Let me tell you what the article would have said, had it existed:"We put in 802.11a, even though it is the same speed as 802.11g, figuring since it is in the 5GHz band it will be better than the 2.4 GHz band. I didn't do my research though, because 5GHz attenuates much more when passing through air and especially through walls. My tests showed that 802.11a was equal to 802.11g within 1 foot of the Access Point, but beyond that 802.11g was better due to having a better signal to noise ratio. Only in situations where 802.11g will be interfered with on all channels should 802.11a be used."Of course, that is just my opinion, but I don't believe their tests could have shown anything different, as it is simple physics, and it comes down to running the same standard on different frequencies.

how does stuff like this get onto the front page? I've consistently seen some suspect stories on the front page of digg and as far as I can see there is a lot of digg-rigging BS going on here. I migrated from /. for this?
