people are shooting him down for the stupid idea of his site, but read his post again, it's not about the idea, it is just an experiment by him to see how much time and money is needed to start a proper websitethe idea is clearly stupid but that's not the point
"Bad publicity is good publicity" may work for the world that Paris Hilton lives in, but it will never work for websites, especially 2.0 sites, in the long run. Also, I could draw Gimp that logo in less than five minutes, and I can barely draw. $400?
I'd wonder why you people keep posting things about that halfwit Guy Kawasaki, except of course that Kawasaki is probably either posting it himself or conning people into doing it for him. Look, his only talent is self-promotion. He's not your friend, he's not your mentor, and he's not going to tell you anything that even vaguely useful to an adult of average intelligence.
I designed my site http://www.whogets.com/ for about the same total cost and whogets is 10 times cooler than this site. Spent most of the money on design or planning the design and not on legal or the other stuff Guy mentions. Our logo was $149.00 and it is considerably better -- in my very subjective opinion.
Wow, lots of haters here. I found it to be pretty inspirational. Sure, some of us would take different steps, but I'm happy he posted the account of his trials. $399 for a logo....not too bad. Logos aren't easy, you don't just create something in GIMP with Arial font, the logo is part of your identity, and important. Showing no care in your logo pretty much shows how much care and detail you will put in the rest of your site. And kudos for designing a logo outside of the usual Web 2.0 bubbly letter template. And jeez, if I was testing out the popularity of a new site, I would not pay for it to be on a huge server that can survive the Digg effect, that's a waste of money. He'll find his visitor base eventually after everyone from here with nothing better to do goes on there to find a flaw to point out.
12K and all I got was this crappy, spam filled website. My website http://www.SolarCoupons.com was built for less than $400 and that included 10 or so domains and logo and 1 year of hosting. Someone should tell this "Guy" I have some swamp land for sale I think he would love!

Have you considered that good PR would bring infinitely more page views though?] 2. $12,000 goes a very long way these days. [if the "worst website ever' is a long way] 3. You can work with a team that is thousands of miles away. [outsourcing as plagued America for a long time] 4. Life is good for entrepreneurs these days. [ Huh?? Is it just me, or does the logo look an awful lot like that used by Zecco -- http://www.zecco.comTry doing a mouse-over. Worth $400? Methinks not.
