Good link Shark. That guy gained some cred with me as soon as he said he hated Glocks. As far as I'm concerned, to each his (or her) own. Everybody needs to determine their own needs and abilities, and what works best for them. For example, in my situation, I don't think the added capacity of double stack design outweighs the downsides. Among the downsides is the relatively greater difficulty of concealment. The old 1911 (and it is an old 1911, not an A1) is about as narrow as a major caliber handgun gets, and I can conceal it easily carrying on my hip in a holster or Mexican style. Not to mention the mags are easier to conceal too. (Carrying a spare double stack mag in your front pocket may leave the impression you have a banana in there. Or a spare mag.) Hit your target once with a 45 and he is very likely to be out of the fight. If I ever need more than the 16 rounds that two mags give me (always carry one extra, sometimes two) I will likely be in deeper s**t than any pistol will get me out of.I also don't like pistols that don't have a manual safety. When the Glocks first came out I predicted the so-called safest pistol ever would have more than its share of ADs, and I have been vindicated on that point.I also carry a Star Model S in .380 ACP when concealment is paramount. It has proven to be very reliable, and has the added advantage of having the same controls and function as the 1911, so I don't have to adjust my technique when I switch from one to the other. Most convenient.I love that old 1911. I have been carrying it for about 20 years now, during which time I have shot it loose twice and rebuilt it twice. Once I got the right set up, the only problem I had was the very occasional stovepipe due to my own bad technique. If it ever should jam on me in a pinch, I have been practicing with it for so long I can clear jams in my sleep. I have had the little Star almost as long. I can hit the k-zone offhand rapid fire with either one consistently out to about fifty feet point shooting, and no problem doing the same out to about 100 feet using the sights. It works for me, so I'm not going to fix it. You kids can have the plastic popguns. More power to you.
FTA:"Let?s examine this horrendous new bill HR 45, Blair Holt?s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009. This bill, which will pass without a murmur of dissent, and your rights, as laid down by our Founding Fathers, will be buried..."Seriously? As the owner of multiple firearms, including semi-auto pistols and an AR-10, I have been watching this bill closely. I would say that it is quite inaccurate to claim that H.R. 45 will become law "without a murmur of dissent". I wonder if the author of the article even knows the specifics of the bill? It is here, for anyone interested in the reality of H.R. 45:http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:h.r.0 ...The first thing I notice about H.R. 45 is that it has NO cosponsors. ZERO. How many bills become law with NO COSPONSORS? The extent of its activity has consisted of being shuffled around to various subcommittees. With no support, that is where it will die for lack of interest.

What? They're only protecting themselves? Who's going to protect everyone else?
