conclayve.blogspot.com — Keith Carlisle, Freddie Washington, Jon Herrington and Jeff Young (all who have played with Steely Dan backing Walter Becker and Donald Fagen) played on all but one track of Clay Aiken's new CD called On My Way Here. This blog takes a look back at their great contributions to music.

Clay Aiken deserved the best -- and he got it in these musicians. It's a great CD both for vocals and music.

There is great musicianship and depth to this CD. But you have to listen to it to know that and still have eardrums that aren't blown out. congrats to all who had a part in the making of On My Way Here!

I had no idea! Quality musicians + quality vocals = quality CD... too bad critics can't do the math.

Steely Dan- saw them last year at Wolf Trap. I've been a lifelong fan, and wow, they were beyond awesome in concert. The ultimate jazz rock fusion band ,IMO. Aiken's a lucky man! Some "critics" are hire-ons for their local rags- they may not do the research. This definitely needs to go out. What are the Brecker Bros. up to these days? I loved their sound. I remember Michael McDonald saying they scared him to death when he had to play with them, he was so in awe.

This made me so nostalgic for one of my favorite bands as a college student in the seventies. Steely Dan's jazzy/rock sound was so unique, there was no mistaking them when you heard their songs. I'm so glad to hear they're touring and sounding awesome, a huge credit to these great session musicians backing Fagan and Becker. So-called music critics are so out of touch, they always get it wrong. I definitely don't need critics to tell me what to like.

Zinite--I'm a little confused. If newcomers aren't welcome to join this site and explore it and enjoy what it has to offer, then why allow enrollment of new members? I may have come because of one article, but I've had a lot of fun reading many of the linked articles and videos, and I plan to keep coming back, whether you welcome my presence or not. I mean--didn't you have to join and be a newcomer, or were you somehow just an 'old timer' without ever being new?

Thanks for including links. I like some of the songs. I'm definitely not hearing a canned background if that's what they're saying. Seems like a lot of music critics these days either don't seem to know their stuff or just don't bother though. I guess if you just 'phone it in' or have the big ego to think your own personal tastes define good v bad, then sooner or later you're going to look like a complete idiot over something like this.
