As long as we are talking about non-freeware virtual desktops, I user AltDesk, it is only $15, is skinable, and works much more like the built in virtual desktops in X Windows. I use it on both multi-head and single head setups just fine.http://www.astonshell.com/altdesk/I use a number of other indispensable utilities as well, one of the best ones, unxutils, a collection of windows binary versions of *nix command line utilities, can't live without them. Open source of course.http://unxutils.sourceforge.netAnd I can't forget the admins friend, almost anything from SysInternals. All freeware, and some open source.http://www.sysinternals.comI think that covers the ones I most use, I know there are many others, but many are very strictly related to the work I do, not working in windows in general.
After looking @ 7-Zip, it looks ok, but IZArc still appears to have support for many more file formats, including Unix compression algorithms. It supports extraction of 48 different file formats and the encoding of 11 different formats. And its manipulation of ISO files is great - it has been more reliable for me than apps like IsoBuster. The only drawback I've found so far is that the shell integration doesn't work in Windows XP Pro - x64 Edition (right-click Extract to...).
WIN+R doesnt have the extendability of SlickRun. You can link commands together to run them all at once (Saves writing a .bat file). And the best thing is it remembers the commands. If i want to run putty I just type WIN+Q, p, ENTER and its asking for my key passphrase to log into the server. You can pass parameters to make it even more customizable.
