coverpop.com — A flash animation showing the relationship between chromatics, harmonics, and even primes and non-primes. It sounds as cool as it looks! From the author's site: "a musical realization of the motion graphics of john whitney as described in his book 'digital harmony'"

Almost sounded like a Zelda boss battle from the SNES.

Accidentally (mebbe) I started two of these going at the same time. The overlaying of the pitches and rythms work really nicely. Next to try, the primes and non-primes - wonder if I can force them both to start at the same instant....

simpleid: The primes do line up after 3 minutes, is that what you're talking about? This isn't a magical property about the choice of primes -- it's because I chose orbits that sync after 3 minutes. The first dot orbits 2 times in 3 minutes. The second dot orbits 3 times in 3 minutes. 5 times, 7 times, 11 times... So no matter what numbers I chose, in 3 minutes, they are all going to line up. Nonetheless, I do like the fact that the patterns compel one to explore number theory.Don't let me discourage you from writing your own version -- this is why I posted some script examples. My processing page also contains some sample scripts that produce these patterns:<a class="user" href="http://www.krazydad.com/p5/">http://www.krazydad.com/p5/</a>

The spinning dots remind me of the shape of galaxies...

Ok, I wrote a java application now which does this to the tune of the mathematical constant e.Each dot from 1 to n takes the speed of 1/n!I havn't attached sound to it, I'm looking in to generating MIDI sounds, well see.So far this stuff is fun, I'm going to start looking for patterns and such soon, and try some other algorithms to get some neat sound patterns.

About 1 second into "210" is the sound from the 70s cartoon Superfriends. Meanwhile, at the Hall of Justice! Holy s**t, it's a good thing I'm totally wasted or I wouldn't have heard that. Must... bookmark.... site...
