The comment was more of a jab at the UK's over reaching government than it was at soccer. But the fact that you felt the need to defend soccer is also kind of funny.

Yeah, I'm aware of 'Soccer Saturday' but nobody here (England) ever actually uses the word in conversation. Kids don't knock for each other and ask their mates to come out and play 'soccer'. Nobody says, "Fancy going to a soccer match on Saturday?" It's just not used.
