I agree with you. That's one reason I'm against the "war on drugs." What you put in your own body is your decision and the government should stay out of it. So whether you want to drink a beer, smoke a joint, or eat a fatty cheeseburger, the gov't shouldn't be able to stop you. These are public health issues, not legal issues.
"Do you then feel that your health care provider should have the right to drop you for being morbidly obese?"Yes! For pete's sake lets give them a motivation to make a healthier decision on their own! Its called Freedom. Some people will make the "wrong" decision, but WHO DECIDES what the wrong decision is????? If we banned everything that SOMEONE thought was a bad idea, nearly everything would be banned. If we instill this idea that personal choice has become the government's responsibility then what happens when Hitler comes to power and he decides that Judaism is the "wrong" decision??That is an extreme example, but the fact is simple, the most basic ideas of freedom and liberty are that each person decides for himself. Anything else is a step towards fascism.
That is NOT the same! How can you even compare speeding down the road and possible hurting someone else and yourself to eating a fatty food that will only harm you? I think you're missing the point completely.

"With your logic we should ban alcohol as well" -- maybe if 30% of Americans were self-destructive alcoholics, then I'd give it consideration...
