blogs.chron.com — Microsoft is introducing a new "feature" to Windows XP Professional. If you try to update with a bootleg copy, you'll see a few changes... Such as, the desktop background will be reset every 60 minutes & changed to a plain black background. Not to mention the addition of what Microsoft calls the "persistent desktop notification."

"You can play WoW on Ubuntu just fine (I play this way)"I'll reinforce that, I play games on linux. I just lanned starcraft the other weekend and play WoW regularly on Ubuntu. Wine has come a long long way.

Each time they release a new WGA version, the old cracks don't work any more. So it's not quite that easy.

@zeebo> In the 90s they had more than 95% of all computers using their OS. Today, that number is conservatively less than 89%, Now, where are those numbers from? People visiting microsoft.com? People buying a computer with Windows and reinstalling? People running three instances of Windows virtualized on Linux? Please, tell me!

It is definitely legit. The CD has all the hologram stuff, the OEM license stick is real with all the little hologram stuff in it too and looks exactly like the picture on the MS website showing a real sticker.. It isn't a VLK license but WGA insists it is. It passed WGA for about 6 months and then suddenly it was flagged as VLK, then the message changed to it not being a license that MS has ever issued, and now it is back to claiming to be a VLK license.Something screwy with their hashing code I suspect.

Wow. Sorry... I (obviously) read it way differently. Jacques Derrida strikes again!

Like there isn't a universally available crack that takes two seconds to fully activate XP as a "corporate desktop" installation with no restrictions of any kind... That said, why the hell would anyone who knows enough to be able to install XP from scratch (hardware drivers and etc. oh my), WANT to do that to a perfectly good computer?

Until MS does a complete 180 and realizes what a crap OS Vista is and doesn't just try to "fix it" with the next OS, I am fully switching over to Mac. Used to hate Macs but with the way MS is going I would rather deal with an overpriced machine. My current Mac is better with my graphic design business anyways. I'll only keep running windows xp media center until my HP laptop completely goes in the crapper. Besides, HP is taking the "look at me, I'm a mac wanna be" route anyways. We will see if MS can make me a believer again.

It is better not to joke with XP now!
