engadget.com — Given that we're already pretty sure that Google has developed their own mobile OS based on Linux. DigiTimes' sources also note that Google is contemplating going with a 3G handset instead of EDGE for its initial foray into the cellphone market.

Yes, I have looked at the cell phone market. All current cell phones suck from a nerd perspective. Even the iPhone sucks, it's just got a big screen and pretty interface.Get your head off of the media hype tit and look around. Cool doesn't sell as well as you think. Function sells tremendously well. Think of how many people have blackberry's. Ugliest damn interface known to man, but it works great. I hate the things personally, but I'm pretty much alone there.

I want Google to release a phone. It would give the iPhone a run for its money and hopefully Apple will recognize that they need to develop a real API for the iPhone -- none of that bulls**t AJAX stuff. See Wil Shipley's awesome blog post about Apple's growing hubris and why this is absolutely necessary. <a class="user" href="http://wilshipley.com/blog/2007/09/iphone-ipod-contain-or-disengage.html">http://wilshipley.com/blog/2007/09/iphone-ipod-con ...</a>

Mock ups or it isn't gonna happen.

Google should stay out of hardware - their web presence is enormous, I can't imagine that hardware will improve their brand visibility. Also, there are plenty of good iPhone competitors coming out. The Voyager comes to mind [ <a class="user" href="http://gadgets.theogler.com/2007/verizon-voyager/">http://gadgets.theogler.com/2007/verizon-voyager/</a> ].
