It's not hotmail that they're fighting against...it's Outlook Live. It's basically Exchange via the "cloud". We're in the process of implementing it at work. It's an OK service from what I've seen. It has a nice web interface. Far more features than you'll find in Gmail, but that isn't always a great thing.The main problem with hosted email services are the lack of integration options. Most software applications are design to integrate with local mail exchangers, sometimes very specific ones like Notes or Exchange...these hosted applications don't really work right with that stuff a lot of the time.
