engadget.com— Google's grand Nexus One experiment has fizzled to an end -- the company just announced that will eventually stop selling handsets online and instead partner with carriers to sell phones in-store.

The problem isn't the people lacking the comprehension of how an unlocked phone benefits them, it's that it actually doesn't benefit people in the US. AT&T and T-Mobile are the only GSM carriers and there are no handsets that can connect to both 3g networks. So really the only reason to buy an unlocked phone in the US is to use it when traveling internationally. The LTE networks can't get here fast enough. If the FCC has any sense they'll have all LTE carriers build compatible networks and we can finally have some real consumer choice.
@enantiodromia - you are literally making NO sense. I, too, work in the industry and I know how long it takes to develop something. Here is your original argument - "Google is not a hardware company." Ok, and this was my retort - "10 years ago, Microsoft was not a video game console company."...Merely implying that companies change. While we're at it with business which you apparently know, you should know that in order for companies to grow and become successful, they need to take risks and invest in new sectors they weren't in before. Microsoft jumped into the video game console market, Apple jumped into the phone market, and Google jumped into... well, just about every market and they continue to test out new ones all the time.Yes, it takes R&D time to develop the Xbox. It also took time to R&D the iPhone. And it took time to R&D the Nexus One. Your arguments are flawed, and you don't understand how to read. This isn't a technical discussion, its more of a "holy s**t, this idiot doesn't know how to comprehend the English language."
Apple does not make the best phones. I tried an iPhone in an AT&T store many times. It sucked. Also, to sync the iPhone you have to use iTunes and there is no chance in hell I'm going to put iTunes on my computer.
