treehugger.com — Larry Brilliant, head of Google.org, said: "I?m going to approach this the way a venture capitalist would ? map out the industry to see what the gaps are. You fund an initiative, learn what works, and ask, 'Will it scale?'"

How exactly is this discouraging? It's easy to scoff, at least he's trying to do something.

Wonderful! Google (Liberals) are jumping on the Global Warming BS Bandwagon. The sun has gotten 1 degree hotter in 100 years, big deal! Like the above poster said, are the republicans to be the blame for this? Get a grip people! Stop giving in to the idiotic left wingers.

The idea of global warming has only been around for a little over thirty years, not enough time to fix a huge problem we know little about. If you think we know a lot about it then you are very sadly mistaken. Even leading expert scientists can not completely agree with what is actually going on and whether or not it is a good or bad thing, much less if humans have been the cause. Maybe we should define the problem a little more thoroughly before we pour billions of dollars into organizations so they can inform the public how horrible and dire this situation is. We do not even know if there is a problem yet. As soon as they can predict what the weather will be some what accurately a week out, then I will start listening. Most of their "global predictions" have been innaccurate to date and I see no reason to take their word for it know. Show me hard evidence and I am sold, until then, I have no desire to hear from Green Peace.

Too bad this is a waste of money. Too bad Digg is Mob rules and anyone who says Global Warming is a joke gets dugged down because Al Gore says the debate is over.

Even if you don't believe in global warming at all, I don't understand how it could be a bad thing to:1) Reduce air pollution, or2) Reduce middle-east oil dependencyThe article isn't clear on what the Google Foundation plans to do, but it's hard to imagine their plan isn't going to help at least one of these two problems.

Damn, what _doesn't_ Google do? Now they'll have to find a way to make money out of it. They may not be 'evil', but this project will still cost alot of money. I can only think that it will be more than they earn at the moment. Unless they set up a charity organization...Good on them though, let's hope the community gets behind them.

NOAA has a good report just released, for all you "global warming is a myth" people. Obviously there are temperature highs and lows that occur naturally, but we are experiencing some pretty drastic climatic trends of late.http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2006/s2663.htm
