tgdaily.com — The last bastion of IE6 hold-outs, corporate users, are being targeted by Google. Users of Gmail, including any companies using the services of Google Apps, are being advised to dump IE6 in favour of Chrome, Firefox or IE7.

The problem is that some IT Personnel are lazy and doesn't want to update/patch the system. They don't update the browser because "it works" or "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. Some companies don't want to upgrade their OS from Windows 2000 to Windows XP due to licensing costs. Since Windows 2000 only supports IE6, they can't upgrade into IE7. Little do they know that there are better alternative browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, and Opera.Another reason is ignorance (not stupidity). Not too many people know that you can integrate/slipstream drivers or patches such as Service Pack 3 or Internet Explorer 7 into the Windows XP installation. The slipstreaming process saves a lot of time during deployment.

They show IE 7 with Chrome and Firefox if you are using IE6. They show IE 8 Beta, Chrome, and Firefox if you are using IE 7.

It is surprising that people are still using IE6. I have been using IE8 for a while now; and it seems to be doing just fine for the browsing I do.Of course, I have been thinking about downloading Chrome; but then I wonder what I would do with two browsers.

If only Google could tell China to stop doing everything for IE6 as well.

"The single biggest problem now in moving the Web forward is having to deal with people using back versions of IE." - Mozilla Chairman recentlyFrom http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10102627-92.html

IE6 is the browser of choice for most major corporates due to it's robustness and the "if it aint broke don't fix it" stability.IE7 has known security issues that make it a risk to any corporate network.Plus, rolling out a later version of a browser to in excess of 1000 user network is not something to take on lightly.
