mercurynews.com — Google called the Bush administration's request for data on Web searches as ``so uninformed as to be nonsensical'' in papers filed in San Jose federal court Friday, arguing that turning over the information would expose its trade secrets and violate the privacy of its users.

In distinction from other companies-whores like Yahoo which give up everything for instant and proper pay, Google is moved by ideas. Google went a long way and made a lot of sacrifices to achieve some specific tasks and accumulate a lot of resources which can bring them ... well, I'm not sure what exactly, but it'll be mixture of ultimate power, money etc. While others by accepting everything for a bucks lost their acceleration and it's only a matter of time for Google to bury them all.So now they want Google's treasure, achieved with this discipline for free using preposterous motives. I'm not sure who really started this - Bush Administration or competitors.

"i think the jury is still out on whether bush was actually elected. the GAO has doubts. half of america has doubts. i think what we will find out in 2008 is whether we can actually call ourselves free and a democracy... or republic or... whatever."As much as I didn't like Nixon, JFK might have lost to him if Chicago's Mayor Daley had not helped a lot of dead people vote.

Hello. my name is Anna, and I am neither a liberal nor a conservative. I am not a political activist, nor even a college graduate (yet). I am a human being. I've never really bothered to take the time to post on sites about the matter at hand; i.e. the gov't, our current administration, or it's attempt to violate the American people's constitutional rights, because well, I've just found it pointless. But I'm getting tired, and a bit angry. Granted, there are plenty of "Bush-bashing" comments posted about here, as well as on other sites. I personally don't condone them. The administration is doing a perfectly good job proving what it is that they're about. No one needs to point it out in such obvious fashion. However, I seem to have stumbled across a trend, and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... but I've found that in response to said comments, as well as viable, educated comments, "conservatives" or like minded persons feel the need to post about how "silly"/"naive"/"bitter"/etc. the "liberals" are. Resulting in a similar backlash. Please note the use of quotations because it's an important aspect of what I'm about to try to convey here. I know that this one comment will probably not cement any real type of change, but there is a mentality harbored between "conservatives" and "liberals" and it needs to be addressed. Now. Five minutes ago, even.I implore you all, as equals, to stop playing into labels. It's sad. So much more would be accomplished if we stopped harassing each other, and focused on more important matters. It's not about the media "feeding" anyone anything in favor of one particular side. Each side has it's own media rep. rooting for/against them. It's not about the "republicans" or the "democrats" being "better" than the other. Both have committed ethical and political atrocities. For over a century, our country and the people within it have been divided. Whether it's about the color of our skin, the religion we choose to practice, the amount of money we have or do not have, or the political party we decide to support. If we're fighting each other, then we're distracted... Making it easier to be controlled, and to get things past us. It's a simple psychological tactic, and it's been in use since the days of the civil war. There is a bigger picture, but you're all too focused on the details. People are not seeing the forest for the trees, if you will. So what's my point, you ask?Take my initiative (and Google's) as example and stop being apathetic, like I once was. Take advantage of what little liberties we have left, before they're annihilated, because it has been clearly demonstrated, that is the direction this country is heading in (and we are a world power). It's just a matter of time. It's not necessarily limited to the current administration. Our country is based on capitalism. Capitalism is great in theory, but it's also focused on the obtainment of money. Money equals power, and as we all know very well, power corrupts. It is our responsibility to make sure the corruption is kept in check. We can do something. Instead of writing a post, send a letter or e-mail to your local congress person. Call for an impeachment. Protest. We have a voice, it's just slowly and subconsciously being manipulated to the point of extinction through "bashing". There's more of us than there are of them, and if we shout together, we're more likely to be heard. And who knows, maybe we can change something more than just the "puppet" in office. I think we can all agree, there is much in need of changing. If Google can do it... (for whatever reasons they might have, be them ethical or not---I don't work for Google, so I really can't make an unbiased interpretation of their business decisions) Why can't we? You will most likely misinterpret this post. You will be inclined to think I am just another "tree-hugging hippie". Fine. If nothing else, I hope that what I've taken the time to write here will make a few people stop and think.Thank you.~Anna
