Windows is top because they have the market by a death gripe(less so now vs 90s early 200s, but still)Apple has always had its niche, and now its growing due to a nice OS.But I have no doubt Google can push Android...Nokia will likely be able to do the same with Symbian(although I have doubts on the US market)
I think that the final 'carryall' that we are going end up with (that does it all:calls, very good camera, email) will end up being somewhere between a netbook and an iphone in size with a blackberry keyboard and touchscreen.
Apple has yet to decide whether it is feasible to make a truly underpowered tiny laptop which will have OS X and Apple quality which will mean higher price tag, trolls etc.For example, if Apple released a netbook today, I wouldn't buy it. I don't really get the purpose of it especially if it comes with a price tag nearing a real laptop. This is not a guess or anything, this is what Apple meant when they commented about a netbook having $500 price tag. They say the quality and performance doesn't match to Apple's requirements. They buried your comment but yes, Macbook Air without fancy stuff like SSD seems a good alternative.

Symbian on my N95 almost dies every time I try to add music to my music library, I really don't want to see it running on a netbook.

If Maemo is so bad, why does Ubuntu Mobile use it as base?
