nytimes.com — Google and some of the Web’s leading social networks are teaming up to take on Facebook. On Thursday, an alliance of companies led by Google plans to begin introducing a common set of standards to allow software developers to write programs for Google’s social network, Orkut, as well as others, including LinkedIn, hi5, Friendster, Plaxo and Ning.

"...Orkut, as well as others, including LinkedIn, hi5, Friendster, Plaxo and Ning."who uses those? I didn't even know they existed. plaxo and ning sounds like a bad drug company.

Further to my previous comment, it appears the answer is "Yes" - check out this link:http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/That'll really put the cat amongst the pigeons - Facebook and Bebo seem to be the only two major social networking websites not mentioned. If you can get the same applications on almost all social networking websites, those not participating will suffer.

Fair enough, but now you can see why Google weren't too bothered about losing out. They've completely outmaneuvered Microsoft - by uniting with Facebook's competitors and releasing a common API that's easier to use than Facebook's, they've completely changed the rules of the game. I bet Microsoft's stake in Facebook has gone down in value since OpenSocial was announced.

Oh, and of course Bebo HAVE signed up. I hadn't got through all my RSS feeds when I wrote that.

But since google is owned by males, you're just queer. I get a little tired of men trying to cover up their gayness with misogyny. Now spare us your misogyny and rape mentality and just come out of the closet already.
