gigaom.com— No "Google Number" needed! A lighter version of Google Voice now exists for people who are willing to trade some features for the ability to use their existing numbers.

am i the only one that would like digg to implement some feature that would allow users to vote in a new url for a story? even if it didn't replace the original, make it a little more obvious that there's a "strongly suggested alternate article"
A free way of saving a ton of minutes per month if you get a lot of voicemails. With a text transcription it's no longer necessary to listen to your messages. Most carriers charge you for a minute even if you only listen for a few seconds.
I do like the fact that with Google voice you can keep your voicemails. It has never made sense to me that I cannot take a voicemail I get and keep a personal copy of it.
Oh you can archive you vmail, at least with Verizon, but they make you pay extra for it and it's kind of a pain (I think they actually mail you a CD with the audio files on it). GV is SO much better.

But if someone called your cell number would that not send them into an eternal loop?

Sprint is fixing this and rolling out an exception to the $0.20 per minute charge on call forwarding - only for Google Voice - and you can read about it at Google's official announcement page:http://www.google.com/voice/sprint
