networkworld.com — An awful lot of people seem to be searching Google for "Yahoo." In fact, Yahoo is such a popular search term on Google that it even beats sex (not always, but the two are pretty close, with Yahoo taking the lead recently). There are a few things that could contribute to this. Is there something wrong with the new Google Trend tool?

agreed (parent comment etc). another thing i used to see working at an internet cafe was when faced with a google interface (usually the firefox start page), many, many, shockingly many users would enter "yahoo" or "msn" in the search box. also other sites (hotmail, etc) but other search engines was what killed me. and presumably it's just because that's what they got set up with on their machine at home, and their first instinct was to try to bring up a familiar environment. just those numbers alone are probably pretty significant in this context.

Google trends is either broken, or the first annual granny/tranny expo took place in early 2006.http://www.google.com/trends?q=granny+porn%2C+tranny+porn&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all

some comments are already in it. it's called navigational search. If google's your homepage, you type in Yahoo or MySpace - an whoosh you're there. No fiddling with a gazillion unorganized bookmarks or misspelled URLs.

I always use the google search bar to access webpages that I visit (mostly) infrequently. As a matter of fact, my browser address bar history is my condensed bookmark list: I go to extremes to keep that list short and tidy.If /I/ paste even "click here to generate a new password for you"-links in the google search bar, then I am sure a lot of people type 'yahoo' in there, too. And yes, it might even be wise to keep "p**n" outside your browser address history...
