uneasysilence.com — Google just hired the lead developer of GAIM. GAIM is an IM client for Mac OSX, Windows, and Linux that is compatible with the following IM Servises: AIM, MSN Messenger, ICQ, Yahoo!, Jabber, IRC, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Zephyr networks, and GroupWise Messenger. Could Google be making an IM client similar to Trillian. If they did I would sure use it.

GAIM is nice but... kinda clunky. Hopefully the Google boys will keep this guy in line and make it nice and streamlined, while still packing in all the functionality. I really hope they put out a full-featured Google Talk client - I was very disappointed with the bare-bones client we got.

It has nothing to do with multi-protocol clients, I bet. Look at what Sean Egan himself wrote on <a class="user" href="http://gaim.sourceforge.net/">http://gaim.sourceforge.net/</a>"Currently, I'm working on making it as easy as possible for other clients to use Google Talk's voice features. You can expect Gaim and other clients to be interoperable with Google Talk's voice features in the near future."Why would Google want to make a multi-protocol client anyway, it would probably be a legal minefield. Opening up to third party clients however, that makes sense.

Do it. I'm there. I'm so there. It's the only thing holding me back from going full google talk.

they hire the guy from gaim and you say "similar to trillan". maybe im too smart for this internet thing, but wouldnt it be similar to gaim, rather than trillian? if thye wanted trillian they would hire the trillian guy.

as long as its not as big a let down as gtalk i MIGHT try it... but I have trillian pro already. Why should I switch to googles new messanger software (assuming there will be one)? To reward them for finally catching up to other software like Gaim and Trillian? I think not.

Apple hired Dave Hyatt and everyone assumed they would make a Gekko-based browser because he was an active member of the Mozilla project. When Safari was announced, however, everyone was shocked (personally, I was also relieved) to hear that it's based on KHTML. My guess is that they simply are hiring someone who knows Jabber inside an out to improve their client.

They need to make it support xfire too.

I've been using GAIM since god knows when.. I did like GTalk but had very few fiends using it. It will be nice to see the future of these two IM clients and more so now that Yahoo/Microsoft are teaming up.

had AIM a long time ago, but switched to GAIM after learning about all the crap AOL puts on your PC without you knowing it. I had to stop using GAIM b/c it kept giving me these random errors. I'm using Trillian now, seeing as how they changed their UI - the old one was irritating
