googletalk.blogspot.com — This morning, Google flipped the switch to connect the Google Talk Service to the public XMPP network this morning. Google Talk users can now chat with users on other XMPP services (eg. Jabber) and vice versa.

I guess this just means I can now talk to all the Jabber users I don't know instead of the one Google Talk user I do know.

This is great news, although I can't see the likes of MSN or AOL moving to the Jabber standard and even if they did would they allow chat sessions from outside their servers? We will have to wait and see. Thanks for submitting this story, it's good to see a digg with decent linkage, and it's not about some lame flash animation.++digg

"and this helps me how?" so you can have your jabber account as your msn (if you make it as an msn passport) and your gmail account under the same thing?I can't wait till Jabber really takes off, it's a much better idea then MSN and Google's server is great.+digg because I've been waiting since I started using Jabber for this to happen

+Mod to [amigiac] 4 comments above me. His method works exactly as said, and it functions great! I am using a secure client on port 443 with GTalk (others are firewalled here at work) and I still have AIM functionality. I grabbed ursine.ca from jabber.org/network/ instead of what he listed - cause it didn't work. If you try it, just give it time when sorting/renaming/accepting your contacts for AIM/MSN/Yahoo.Thanks man!

Gorkish, I did what you said and now I can talk to IM people on GTalk, but they don't show up as available. All of my contacts show up as unavailable, even thought it lets me talk to some.
