googleblog.blogspot.com — Google just announced a new service for pushing Gmail contacts and Google Calendar updates to mobile devices. For iPhone and Windows Mobile devices Google is using Exchange ActiveSync with some limitations due to the beta nature of the service, but it'll also work on many other devices that support SyncML.

I love it, and I thank google for understanding the importance of this and providing it. I also understand that this is a win win for both parties, afterall google will gain more people to the calendar service (and gmail), learning whether the play football or where they will be holidaying. Equating to pinpointed ads...!Still, please please please can I have push gmail....

Except you're using Microsoft's own protocol to do this.

Yes this is some nonsense that needs to change. I use my iPhone for both business and personal use, but I don't want my personal events to be on my outlook calendar for the rest of the office to see, and I don't want my personal contacts in my outlook contacts. It would be enormously helpful to have access to both on my phone. Right now I'm only syncing work calendar and email and just have to remember personal events.

Needs two major improvements, then it's perfect:- Sync Tasks not just contacts and calendar items- Sync the categories associated with contacts. I have 2700 contacts each of which is categorized. I don't want to do this manually in Gmail.

mobile sync works great but .....I use outlook calendar on my desktop and sync that with google calendar sync and then from there I sync to my iphone. The problem I have is that when I then connect my iphone to itunes and sync, for some reason, it deletes all events on my outlook calendar. I can retrieve the problem by doing a one way sync back from google calendar.Does anyone have any idea why my outlook calendar events get deleted when I connect the iphone to itunes ??JW
