gigaom.com— "Well, little digging around, and hounding the Opera PR team, I found out that the decision to give away the browser came after the company stuck “compensation deals? with some of the search engines."

I like the opera browser. When you close it out on accident, your pages return. It has tabbed browsing, yet so does firefox. I like the printing. So far everything fits to the page. The trash can feature is cool too.
Google and other search engines/sites (amazon, download.com, etc) have had a standing relationship to put their services automatically from the install, instead of the user having to install them. Think built in Search bars. Google had also adword text ads as an alternative to the banner. This was in the PR releases from Opera so I don't see why they had to pester the PR people about it.
I wish Google did an OS. That would be cool. And I know the browser will be coming because everytime I hear a rumor google makes it true. Google search, gmail and google talk. I google talk is using someone else stuff but hey they're making things better.

"Sounds possible, but i'm praying it isn't. I don't want opera's horrible css handling in google's browser."Hmmm... then have a look at this:<a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(web_browser)#Standards">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(web_browser)#Standards</a>"Opera has supported CSS since version 3.5, and one of the inventors of CSS is an employee at Opera."Also check out this 1999 article on CSS early implementation in browsers:<a class="user" href="http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/articles/webrev/199906.html">http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/articles/webrev/199906.html</a>

Picasa needs a Flickr-like partner to be really useful. Wonder if MS has this in mind for their new photo editor/organizer...
