google hosting linux software repositories.... that seems like news in itself....there also seem to be repositories for many other linux distro's... you just listed the one's with GUI guides..." If your distribution is not covered by the GUI guides, or if you prefer to work with command line tools, below are instructions for several common package managers. Choose the one most appropriate for your system. Alternatively you could use the automated installation script to perform these actions. * APT (Debian, Ubuntu, etc.) * YUM (Fedora) * urpmi (Mandriva) * YaST2 (SUSE) * RPM (Red Hat)"

What makes youthink they have the power to support an OS really well? They have the money to fund it, and they have the programmers to develop it, but actual product support is almost non-existant at Google. Google's technical support could be accurately described as a chain of auto-responses until you notice they start repeating themselves and give up.Although all that means is they need to buy or create a support company, which they can obviously afford. Probably on the spot with an I.O.U. in petty cash.

I never understood that "web based OS" stuff. Having a few apps like spreadsheets available online is a far cry from a web based *operating system*. To even access the web you need an operating system on your local computer... and at least one good enough to run a graphical web browser. No trivial task imo.

I find Picasa very useful. F-Spot is a very good program but I was already used to Picasa as I have it installed in Windows

Anything special about these repos or are they just repos?

Not by people who think they are Linux elites (who probably learned Linux on ubuntu).

Earth doesn't use Wine, Picasa does. Google Earth for Linux is native port made by icculus with QT library.
