wow, the new design sure is a step backwards. I guess once they ripped out the .NET technology and slapped into their proprietary web server they had to kill the nice interface along with it.
It's not set in stone... Just yesterday, it was simply Spreadsheets. Today, it is Docs and Spreadsheets. In the future you may get your wish! And don't forget to suggest your idea to google.
I know the so-called "google office suite" doesn't *yet* have all the features of office, but as far as my personal usage goes:(Gmail) + (Google Calendar) > (Outlook)(Google Docs and Spreadsheets) > (Excel) + (Word)(Google acquisition of something like thumbstacks.com?) > (Powerpoint)

I was gladly surprised with the change... I was on my way into Spreadsheets.Google.com to open a list we were working on... when I was hit in the face with all my Writely docs! :)http://manuelhp42.blogspot.com/2006/10/goodbye-writely-welcome-google-docs.html

I think we can consider Writely as being fully integrated when it is the default text editor in gmail.
