Google has released Google Desktop Search for Linux today. The closed source software package will compete with the large selection of open source desktop solutions that are currently available. Interest in projects like Beagle and Strigi might decline as a result of this release. Google Desktop Search does not yet adhere to the free desktop search standard Xesam.
