arstechnica.com — The open source Google Chromium repository now has an OS X Cocoa shell. We downloaded and compiled the latest OS X build of Google's browser, and we talked to the developers to get a sense of how long it will be before Mac users can get their hands on a working beta.

Noscript and ABP alone are enough to keep me with Firefox.

Well, judging by the pace of Mac development, I'm guessing the Linux version will also arrive by the fall... of 2090.

I doubt your experience is typical. I run Safari 4 on 2 intel machines (New MacBook and previous gen Mac Pro), often having 20-30 tabs open on each with no issue. In fact, I've found it to be quite a bit snappier than anything else I've used.

Yes, it is a risk, but apparently a calculated one: Chrome for OS X will be Intel only, because Google isn't planning on porting V8 to PPC.

heh, beta? isn't *everything* google puts out in perpetual beta-mode?I'm suprised their corporate headquarters doesn't say "Google, Inc (beta)" above the door.

I wish Google would develop something interesting instead being like MS and copying other people's apps. Sure, I'll try it, but I'm not sure what people are so excited about, its just another browser with features that 99.9% won't use. FYI: The reason Google does beta so they don't have to support the ad, pretty cheezy if you ask me

@ shinkou, RE your link about the OSX CLI :http://www.mcelhearn.com/?p=32"If the GUI offers a better, easier-to-use solution, that’s my choice. But there are advantages to using the command line. Read on to find out more... "Umm, I don't understand your point? I am a developer, and I LOVE using the CLI... but (like I said in my earlier post), unlike Linux -- under OS X, you NEVER have to use the CLI if you don't want to.BTW : In my job, I use Linux, SCO Unix, and OS X terminal sessions all day.

The Mac beta of Chrome came out a couple months or so back and it seems to work okay. Google very recently added extension support for it. The bookmarks manager for Mac version of Chrome is really weak compared to what Firefox has had for ever.
