Google pays for every "first" install on the Windows platform. Not sure how they tell if the browser was installed before or not. It's probably a feature in Windows. Strange how many "features" in Windows turn in to flaws.
Actually, I have no loyalty to Firefox at all. I do have a lot of loyalty to Google, and this isnt a conspiracy, its a partnership against Microsoft. Everyone knows that Google is doing whatever it can to eat away at Microsoft's market share in any way it can. This Opera deal is just another example of that,
The headline is way off. Saying Google is "cheating" on FF is like saying Kellogs is cheating on Winn Dixie because I can buy Rice Crispies at Publix too. Google has an interest in being the default search on any browser--IE, FF, Opera, Safari, [insert more obscure browsers here], etc. In no way does that hurt either browser.
Um...honestly, I can't say that Google is favoring Opera. As an Opera user, I know that a lot of Google's features don't work properly in Opera--most notably Gmail and Blogger. Wheras just about everything works perfectly fine in IE and Firefox. So really, Firefox shouldn't complain...
