Am I the only one that things there's something weird going on, like this is a fake article, did anyone actually see the page hosted on Google before it was 'changed' ? Also, maybe they were hacked or it was some mischevious employee who changed it at the last minute.I don't find Google to be to active in blatently stealing things from other companies, sure they buy their ideas, or they copy them and make them better, but this, I don't believe, I think its phony-balogny.
As said, probably this was done with the help of microsoft design rules, so that it can be easily identified on any site as part of MS identity, therefore it may not be any plagiarism but even so Google didn't want the fuss and changed it to a more Googlish page with that simple but effective layout. Now I don't know what's the problem on making ads for IE in Google... if they pay and IE is not THAT BAD (ok, they really should have been completely CSS2 standards compliant)...P.S.: I use FF (Windows) and Konqueror (on Gentoo). So I'm not a MS defender, just like to keep the things balanced and answer to something which I find unfair.
see comment up above--yahoo didn't just copy it blindly, they did research and concluded the same thing worked. if they are just blindly copying everything, why doesn't the mail beta look the same as gmail or sport identical feature sets? competitors are often going to appear to 'copy' one another in some concepts, look, and features. i do agree with most posts that if yahoo did this, they'd scream bloody murder (as they do, uninformed, about the search page + results).
Yes... it is a Microsoft standard to require the use of a Yahoo logo in their graphics, which Google didn't copy, but generated their own graphic with a Yahoo logo in it. I don't really think this is a big deal --- although Google obviously did something that is wrong. So much for "do no evil".

Oh yeah, right, it's a Microsoft template, complete with Yahoo logo:http://chir.ag/stuff/yahoo-to-google.gifhttp://img150.imageshack.us/img150/9711/comparisonbu7.jpgOf course if it were Microsoft copying Firefox or Google, they we would be told that they have no originality, are money-grubbing leaches, and should be sued for copyright violations.

That is the template that Microsoft want to use.The ad is for IE7 and not for the search engine toolbar, is just customize for yahoo or google
