google.com — "When the acquisition is complete, YouTube will retain its distinct brand identity, strengthening and complementing Google?s own fast-growing video business... With Google?s technology, advertiser relationships and global reach, YouTube will continue to build on its success as one of the world's most popular services for video entertainment."

From the press release : "Following the acquisition, YouTube will operate independently to preserve its successful brand and passionate community." I have to love that. I thought they were goinf to integrate it with Google Video, which would've been a very bad choice.

what will this mean for you tube and google video? will we see one, huge database or two sites. Will all videos be downloadable (like google video) or will they go you tubes way?

What this means is that all the copyright holders that have been thinking about suing YouTube for copyright infringement are on the phone with their lawyers right now, since some very deep pockets just entered the picture. GoogTube is going to be bombarded with lawsuits.

Unfortunately, both Google and YouTube are still not enjoyable places you can just go and watch videos of interesting things. YouTube is all video blogging and Google is just spam (Look at the top 100 sometime if you think otherwise). I'd like to have it be a place for real entertainment like a YTMND or SpikedHumor, or for the love of God, a decent place to post content so that when Ebaums steals it and puts their damn logo on it, it's too late, cause it's already been on YouTube or Google without annoying copyright for weeks.
