sun.com— No Google was announced, but Sun and Google announced an agreement to promote and distribute their software technologies.

You guys don't get it do you? Open office is open source. Nothing Google distributes is open source. Google just now said they will put huge funds into Open office to help develop it. This is the best possible situation. It means Open office will stay in Suns hands, but at the same time, Google will use it for whatever it wants. This doesn't rule out an OS in the future. It just means the future of open office will not be google ads. Eric Wilson
It's a partnership. Nothing important came out of the partnership *today*. That doesn't mean nothing cool will come out from the two companies in the future. It's amazing how there was this google office rumor running around the web, got hyped up beyond belief, all of you fell for it, and now, all of you are bummed that it didn't happen. Haven't you ever heard the saying, "Don't believe the hype"? Guess not...
I see all this stuff about "Google OS" and "I'm waiting for Google OS!!". Why? They're a search engine company with some decent accessories. I sincerely doubt they would have an OS, and if they did, what would be so special about it? The most they could/should do is to maybe team up with someone to make a new linux distro, and even that may not even catch on.
Again, you near-sighted morons totally overlook the potential importance of this announcement. Look at what's happening: Google is positioning themselves with another big rival of Microsoft. I'm thinking this has more to do with a slated Google OS than any stupid Office Suite.n
For those of you who think Google is JUST a search company then you should really take a look at who they've been hiring and what those people specialize in.

Sun and Google could've had an obscure VP make that announcement instead of getting two CEOs together.
