searchenginejournal.com— One of the results of the Google-DoubleClick acquisition is Google buying Performics, one of the largest SEO companies in the US. Conflict of interest? Yes!

yes, thanks for summarizing the article.and google itself has referred to SEO as gaming its system. i don't think it is, unless we're talking about black hat techniques, but my point is that google might think of the company as one which games its system, so it wants to swallow it.
I am constantly amazed at how much debate there is on these kinds of things. Google is a business...one that excels at capitolizing on ideas presented at every level of the company...(whiteboards in the hallways from people to jot down thoughts, or expand on other ones). To think that they would simply ignore the fact that they have aquired a SEO firm and not take any and all information from that firm...and use it to in some way provide them a benefit...is naive to the extreme. Again...Google is a business...and business are there to make money...that's it...there is no good and no evil...there is only money...and they have lots. (lucky bastards)
I suspect that Google will keep Performics, but might consider ?rebranding? them from calling it a Search Engine Marketing company, to another form of advertising. Or they might just leave it as-is. As far as ethics goes and Google owning a Search Engine Marketing firm, you need to consider that both Yahoo! and MSN have ?search engine marketing? employees.
Do you know that Google, Yahoo, and many other search engine companies hire SEO engineers? Why? Because they are familiar with their algorithms. They can help to make Google search better. One example of SEO company is http://www.alwutech.com/en/
Yes, I think it is a huge conflict of interest! It won't matter how Performics does their seo because google is making the profit. I think it's going to make it harder for other seo firms to do their jobs ethically and get results.
