If this passes I will officially stop going to the movies and renting/buying dvd's. This has gone way too far.

@Randomgeek - In the interest of full disclosure, is 1994 really a recent speech anymore? It's also less terrifying in its complete context. Nevertheless, there's no doubt he and every republican to some degree are utilizing the terror-fear factor this election, as every democrat who holds up a climate-change as one of the crucial issues in the next election is utilizing the hippy-fear factor.

Let me tell you some things here... pass regressive laws like this one and you know all that money Verizon, AT&T, and Most cable companies will be investing in FTTP, FTTN, DOCSIS 3.0??Those investments will go up in smoke, as there will be virtually NO DEMAND for those products after the investments are made.. and they'll be whistling & twisting in the wind, much the way the Gas Guzzling American car companies are now with $4+ gasoline...It's always the laws people try to pass "ON THE DOWN LOW" that are the MOST SHADY.. slip it into a terrorism funding bill, etc.. give us more power to ruin peoples lives at will... etc, etc, etc.As for the jailtime provisions, heh, heh, heh... EXPECT your FEDERAL SALES TAX to go UP as that will mean the federal government will have to bankroll STATE PRISON SYSTEM as the new public works projects.. You just don't know how bad this idea is on so many levels.. When frustrated with the real problems of the world, pick on the easy targets.Even the Swedes have more common sense laws about intellectual property.. Unfortunately, without some level of so-called piracy, or intellectual copyright violations.. the internet will implode, or grow at a much slower level and not justify the kinds of investment huge corporations are making in the FIBER INTERNET BACKBONE and we all know how that puzzle ends (See MCI-Worldcom bankruptcy) MCI-Worldcom's excuse was the misrepresentation of the need for MASSIVE INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS that imploded the company (alleged to be from mismanagement, and fraud, etc) but this can easily happen from regressive copyright laws..ALL NEW LAWS who try to load on the bandwagon of fighting terrorism MUST BE FOR THAT EXACT PURPOSE, NOT SERVE THE INTERESTS OF FOR PROFIT CORPORATIONS!!I'M SORRY, YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO KNOCK DOWN ANOTHER FOUR HUNDRED BUILDINGS WITH PLANES BEFORE SOME CRAP LIKE THIS BECOMES LAW!!!

I'd personally rather see Gravel or Kucinich in power - people who have plenty of integrity, but are also social progressives and humanists.
