seattlepi.nwsource.com — Starting Monday, Google will offer Google Apps for Your Domain, a free package of programs for businesses, universities and other organizations. Companies will be able to send e-mail with Gmail, but messages will carry their company's domain name. The package also includes Google's online calendar, IM, and Page Creator.

Want to try it out but you do not have a spare domain lying around? I can give you a @xurble.com account. Just send a mail to admin@xurble.com and specify which username you want.Do you have a domain with 'Google Apps for Your Domain' which you want to share with the world, then you can send me the name of your domain and an email adres where you want to recieve account requests.

Gmail rocks. I have several accounts with them and use them for all my blogs to have a nice and reliable email account. Also with a few tweaks you can use it as a virtual online disk to store content.youcouldbearedneckif@gmail.comhttp://you-could-be-a-redneck-if.blogspot.comhttp://freshvideo.blogspot.com

Google's own Notifier works just fine with hosted accounts.

What I would love to see, though, is a shared address book. It is great to have all the apps together. If they added an address book that was "company wide" and then the ability to add personal addresses only, that would be powerful.

It does have a shared address book for all users on the domain. Pretty cool.

I signed up using a personal domain and was accepted immediately -- I requested 30 accounts. Setup was a breeze and the whole thing is up and running in under 30 minutes."Cool!" I thought... I registered a domain for the small municipality on whose board I sit and I was put on the waiting list -- I requested 100 accounts. Strange.I love Gmail and Google's services. It'll be cool if they approve my second request!

Follow up: I got my invite for my municipal domain today. Everything is working swimmingly!I wonder what Google will charge for this service, eventually?
