I noticed the same thing. The spam I got was coming from gmail accounts so the explanation is beleivable.

if everyone uses the "mark as spam" button more often the spam filter would become even more effective. my gmail accounts have also begun to get spam trickling into the inbox now too. i'm not even sure how the spammers got my address in the first place.i'm pretty careful with my primary e-mail accounts, so i think it may be because i gave my friend's dad my e-mail address and he's not particularly computer savvy. i immediately began getting mass e-mails and forwarded junk mail from him after i gave him the address. it really annoys me too cuz i specifically told him that i didn't like chain letters but he still insists on forwarding them to me along with other mass e-mails he gets from his friends and relatives.i'm guessing he probably opened an infected e-mail sent from one of his friends/relatives which collected all the e-mails he had in his address book, including mine. i wish i could set up some kind of proxy address that i can give out to people like him in the future where i'd set it to only forward me e-mails sent from certain addresses. that way if i got sick of getting junk mail from someone i could just have the proxy address stop forwarding e-mails sent to me by that individual. and if a virus ever infected one of my contacts' computers it wouldn't gain my real e-mail address.
