webworkerdaily.com — Has Gmail been left behind? PC Magazine thinks so... But desktop email does not represent the best or only paradigm for handling email. Just because you can now make an Ajax-based web client that feels like Outlook doesn’t mean that you should.

i have no issue with the layout and it works well, the issue i have is the monster G indexing all my personal mail and keeping it forever.

@captinherbRead his comment numpty - he actually said "I do not want certain emails to be sitting out in the open like that when I go to my inbox." So I commented becuase a) he hadn't grasped the power of labels and b) didn't know how to click on archive. When people miss such simple things it makes me a little crazy. When people don't read comments and articles before opening their mouths, it makes me mad too. By any chance did you mom sleep with your uncle?

You don't have to label anything at all, to still be able to find it in Gmail. If you don't give something a label, it can still be searched for by subject, sender, etc. Just curious... what sort of folders did you have in your old e-mail? Wouldn't those be a guidelines as to what labels you might use in Gmail?

@raynar:You are right about that, but according to Google, most email applications will not show this, it appears to be limited to Outlook:Note: your Gmail address will still be included in your email headers in the sender field, to help prevent your mail from being marked as spam. Most email clients do not display the sender field, though some versions of Microsoft Outlook may display "From customaddress@domain.com on behalf of yourusername@gmail.com."Source: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=%67mail&hl=en&answer=22370

@captinherbI concede, twelve definitely beats my insinuation that you're the spawn of an incestuous affair, typing slowly with you 6 fingered hand, titling your head slightly to the left looking through your one and only good eye.I have enjoyed this verbal sparing and look forward to our next confrontation.

@JB If I want to maintain a brand and keep my business in the mind of my past customers I want the communication with them to include elements of the business' identity. The logo of the site / business, the color scheme of the site, etc, etc. You just can't do that as effectively with text. Even Google who I would consider to be the largest corporation to champion text over images has recently changed their corporate identity from text to an image on every one of their adsense ad blocks. Ads by Gooooogle are now Ads by Google represented by an image of their logo that more closely represents their brand.
