what it ACTUALLY does is allow Google to justify the fact that they expect a minimum of 50 hours a week out of their employees.That is why they offer all those perks like a gym, dry cleaning, etc. Because they know that you don't have time to do it on your own time.
I have my other addresses automatically forward mail to my Gmail address. Messages either goes to my inbox, or they skip it and get appropriately tagged. It's effortless, convenient, and almost instantaneous.

Why don't have a 3 pane view , i.e. one for the email, another for the message list and the last for the labels

I'd actually like to seem them add a feature where you can your add contacts from a certain service (ie. Windows Messenger) and such. That would rock.
