I wish people had paid more attention in science classes, it makes having a discussion with them difficult when you have to explain elementary principles of physics.First, you are correct that a photon can only be absorbed once. The problem with your argument is that not all photons are absorbed, because if they were the earth wouldn't be visible. It works exactly like a blanket, and increasing the amount of CO2 increases the thickness of the blanket. The earth is warmed when photons from the Sun strike the surface. Much of that warmth is radiated into space, which is why night is colder than day. CO2 absorbs some of that infrared radiation before it is able to make it out to space. The heat is trapped, hence the term "greenhouse".

I'm a first year Computer Science major with a minor in Earth Science. What I find disgusting is legitimate scientists being labeled "kooks" or "nutjobs" for disagreeing with the status quo. That is not the scientific method, that is not science.

"Global warming 'believers' and their lack of facts"? You mean the expert scientists who publish their work in peer reviewed journals? You've been listening to too much propaganda. Most people on the web, including Digg, are not experts on the subject, despite how some would like to appear. Climatologists ARE. If any of you bozos actually think you have something of significance to say, then submit it to a peer reviewed journal, and consensus will sway appropriately. Otherwise you're doing nothing more than propagandizing and trying to sway public opinion. But public opinion is not expert on the subject, and should rely on the experts. The expert scientists agree that anthropogenic climate change is real. 'Nuff said.
