gizmodo.com — OK, fluffy iPhone review time is over. This 12,000 words iPhone tries to cuts through the BS, spin, hype and anti hype, giving you a take on what its like to actually own this phone. Before we get to the in depth hands-on, here's the verdict I'd give any good friend: Wait.

Uh, Walter Mossberg at WSJ, Levy at Newsweek, Pogue at NYT and the USA Today dude also used it in the real world for a couple weeks before making a judgement. Unless you mean "every other review" except those :p

I have to disagree about it not being a good phone for work. It's so easy to bang out emails and get around the web (a primary work resource for most), I couldn't imagine anything being better, For me at least, this fills 99% of what I need a work phone/pda to do. The notes app is simple, but easy to type on (of course) and very helpful for meetings. I know I wouldn't want to substitute a crackbery for it. I can't see what else you need. I'm not sure a phone is the way to go if you want to edit word/excel/etc files. I bet we'll see it down the line anyway though. Maybe some other devices have apps that can do more but I guarantee I would prefer my iphone's usability during the daily grind.

and that is what I hate most about blog writing. the authors have no business writing because they suck at it. in other words don't write using vernacular.

grubesteak:Maybe you can play badly compressed MPEG-1 videos on an iPod photo's small screen, but the "video" iPod can play much higher quality (using less space) MPEG-4/h.264 videos. And it can because it has a dedicated h.264 decoder chip. The iPod photo couldn't decode a 320x240 (or 640x480) h.264 video with its measly 75Mhz processor. Did Apple say they were gonna add features for free on the iPod photo? No. But they DID officially announce that they will upgrade the iPhone (and the AppleTV) with new features for free over the course of its life. It's even part of their financial report.

"I'm a system administrator in a Win/*nix environment and I've never had the desire to "hack" my iPod "I suggest you look for a new area of work, you can't be too happy there.

Ok wait... while I use my iPhone I am enjoying the best phone I have ever owned. In this tech laiden world its hard for me to fathom how Jizzmodo can put this much thought into a review and tell you to wait. STOP comparing it to other phones on the market and what it can't do.... We should really be comparing the current crop of CRAP phones to it and they don't hold a candle to its touch screen features and interface operation. What it does have is godlike and so far ahead of whats out there....ITS NOT WHAT IT CANT DO - ITS HOW IT DOES IT. The critical reviews are being way to Anal. Take the Stick out of you ASS Jizzmodo!!!!!

I guess I am two easy to please. Maybe it’s because I am a 53 year old system/software tech who wanted a "decent" all in one device and actually believes he got it. In fact I only have two small complaints so far: Ringer volume and ATT unpredictable EDGE download speed for web pages. Also I am not willing to hack the iphone. Kudos to all you guys providing legit support and applications. Kudos to digg.com and everythingiphone.com where I get 95% of my daily dose of iphone. --Ed
