gizmodo.com— Since the official blog post is all Google has said about Chrome OS and it doesn't say much, let's do something I learned in college, turning tiny paragraphs into pages of "deep reading."

HTML 5 is not going to be prominent by next year. It will only become prominent once IE and the standards boards get off their asses and get things moving (prominent as in widespread usage). Nothing will be different from the web you see now and the web using HTML 5 with the exception of offline storage. Plus the scenario you presented can be done with any OS now, how would that be any drastically different, you don't need Chrome OS to use any of Googles' apps.
Doesn't matter, google has a nasty way of insinuating itself into 99% of content on the web. Check your cookies, you'll find google, delete it, and it will pop back up.
@LoneWolf01: Good luck trying to do a programing assignment using a touchscreen =P. You might possibly be able to use it to IRC, IM, email, with textbased clients on the server but it would still be a lot of effort with a very horrible interface.@Jektal: The Opera browser comes with extra RAM in the cartridge. A UI of some kind isn't out of the question (anything with graphics will be able to make a UI), but the ChomeOS one would be. There was some talk of using something like TinyX, matchbox and so onRemember the DS comes with 4MB of ram, there are expansion ram cartridges like the Opera browser which ass more and the DSi has 16MB which might be enough for a basic UI with some apps. Remember the kernel by itself is probably just under 1MB, maybe 500KB if its really trimmed.
Exactly. A kernel *and* a set of applications. If you just change the set of applications, have you really created a new operating system? If I install Solaris x86, and I install all of the Sunfreeware GNU based apps, is that a new operating system?

the new rule should be to digg these comments down if it has positive diggs, and up when it has negative diggs.

if linux kernel DOESN'T necessarily mean ability to use any and all linux apps, consider this OS still born
