thinkprogress.org — Both former mayor Rudy Giuliani and Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) suggested they would support using the technique. Specifically asked about waterboarding, Giuliani said he would allow ?every measure [interrogators] could think of and I would support them in doing it.?

@thcobbs:So you're going to dodge the question? Guliani said that he would do "whatever it takes" to protect the American people. Why shouldn't we assume that means torture, then? If he says that he'll do "whatever it takes," why should anyone trust Rudy if we have a ticking bomb situation and the guy we're interrogating doesn't crack under waterboarding, but Rudy wouldn't endorse torture. Isn't it fair game in that case to ask whether torture or raping/killing an innocent third party would be acceptable if it saved millions of lives? In classic fashion, you pull the "BUT HE NEVER SAID THAT" nonsense. You're literally walking into the argument I'm making. Guliani and others have used stupid codewords like "do whatever it takes" because it would be political suicide to actively say that they support torture. Actually, strike that. The Republican base would probably flock to Guliani if he came out and supported torture - just look to the love for Tancredo when he mentioned Jack Bauer. You, and Guliani, are pulling the most classic rhetorical trick in the book, which is to frame the question and answer in a certain way so that you're not boxed in. So, I'm just trying to inject some honesty in the question.

Yeah, because talk on an internet thread is the same as a nationally televised presidential debate...

"We are the last, best hope for Western civilization"This coming from a man who has just condoned torture, is so arrogant its funny albeit in a really dark depressing way.

It's interesting that they stood up on stage with a former vicitm of torture, who was denouncing it, and supported it with a straight face. They should only experience it themselves.

apparently the vietnamies tortured all the torture out of McCain.

I am shocked by the people on here that would allow a terrorist act to go thru, (possibly a nuclear, chemical, or biological weapon), killing thousand or millions of Americans, so they can say they were humane and didn't torture this ONE terrorist that isn't even American and doesn't even have the rights we have under the constitution. How would you be able to live with yourself after that? No wonder 9/11 happened after 8 years of you guys in charge. And Democrats claim to be more thoughtful of Americans. God help us if you guys ever get in power. Thousands will be dead but the terrorists will be safe and unharmed.

Cause torturing somebody and asking them where the attacks are going to be is bound to work, its not going to force people who have no clue what's going on to make up attacks that don't exist just to avoid torture. Oh wait that's the only thing that torture actually accomplishes, false confessions. You truly are a moron. The only times torture works are during the Inquisition or Witch Trials where the truth doesn't matter.
