I agree that someone who covers the adult entertainment industry has probably seen/heard/whatever enough to be desensitized to the raunchiest of raunchy. However, context has a lot to do with the effect of words. For instance, it doesn't seem offensive to most readers to call this guy Francis a dick. Why? Aren't men offended that a perfectly fine (and often their favorite) part of the body is being compared to a person who is an insult to humans in general? In fact, I'll even admit that I'd rather spend time with just about any man's dick than with Francis. Furthermore, I am certainly offended by the use of the words **** and **** (and even douche/bag, but for a slightly different reason) in the comments, since I happen to think of mine with much regard ;-) This type of language is exactly what underlies what people mean when they argue "society creates men like Francis and the women in the videos." Even in crying out against the offenses of the worst, we use language that supports those we cry out against! Contrary to what most Americans have been taught, genitals are not dirty (human mouths carry more germs on average) and thus comparing them to this scum is an affront to all genitals. Stop using sex/gender/genital terms as insults. *Obviously that's not all that has to be done, but maybe it's a good first step towards wiping out the abusive attitude exemplified by Francis.
