msnbc.msn.com — By almost every benchmark, boys across the nation and in every demographic group are falling behind. In elementary school, boys are two times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with learning disabilities and twice as likely to be placed in special-education classes.

I ranted about this topic when it was first published. (<a class="user" href="http://drumsnwhistles.com/2006/01/24/the-boy-crisis-in-education/)">http://drumsnwhistles.com/2006/01/24/the-boy-crisis-in-education/)</a> I am not going to digg this story mostly because whoever posted it really didn't read the article or they would never have used this title, which is insulting to us all, male and female.

While I could write a 15 page rant on this subject I will keep it short and sweet.I recently read an interesting subject that showed that women who had learned chess at a young age are more likely to do well in the business world. Why? Mainly because they learn an important lesson from a competitive thinking game like chess. They learn to think like men do about business. While your average giggly girl will grow up to be all about gossip and think that business is all about one big family, the men know that business is a game, there are winners and there are losers, and don't think of anyone as part of your family. Business isn't personal, it is just about the money

"it's because boys play video games more than girls...""and the boys are trying to bang the girls when the girls are trying to learn."Hahaha

"So what? Boys also die earlier. Work riskier jobs. Suffer from greater stress and anxiety. None of this is new. If men had the option of staying home and caring for a family and living with mom and dad indefinitely until Mr. Right came along to take care of us, we'd have less problems, too."Wow. That is some serious bulls**t. Men and women have the same option to keep living with mom and dad until something better comes along, both will be treated as losers for doing so. Mr Right? Doesn't exist. Not that "Mr Right" is the men who will work 20 hours a day to support you, but what would you know about it? Men die earlier for multiple reasons, one is stress due to their persistent emotional disability."They're too lazy to give a damn, and that is man's shortcoming.""I wouldn't say men are too lazy to give a damn. They are too busy getting an education in highschool and college. Then they are too busy pursuing a mate and a career and then busting their asses until the day they die, despite stress and health problems and every other miserable thing, to provide for their family. If men had the "option" of working or not and the "option" of staying at home with kids versus working a stressful or even life-risking job and could opt to let the other person take care of all the expenses and work for the family, I'm sure they would have a lot more time to dedicate to "causes"."Right... Because women spend their early years singing, and dancing, and looking at the beautiful sky... And then they just sit on their asses all day and wait for somebody to come and rescue them. And when this mysterious person does show up, he decides to stay forever and dedicate his life to the well being of his wife and kids...Wake up, people. This isn't the 18th century, mom and dad won't just hook you up with a lifetime provider. And if you'll manage to find one, he'll cheat on you with the secretary who sees him more than you do and leave you before you get the chance to dump him. It's every (wo)man for himself.

The solution is to have a classroom for boys and a classroom for girls for the first few years and then later integrate them as they catch up with each other. In the meantime there should be some kind of social mixing such as GYM class, and things of that nature because honestly, life would suck if boys and girls were always seperate...

Girls are undoubtedly NOT smarter than boys. I am a female and as a child have observed the abuse and neglect that boys face in public education, from Kindergarten through High School. Particularly in the 90s, when I was growing up, this was a big problem both from other children "girls rule boys drool, &c" and teachers, who favoured girls in class and supported their goals and aspirations with more enthusiasm.I have grown to be a strong opposer of feminist-empowerment movements which developed after the more "rational" approach to feminism as a form of equality became widespread in the 60s. Equality is far different from misogyny. Everything from television commercials to Vogue adverts treats men like a woman's stepping stone -- some sort of backlash at what many women consider to be their "oppressed" roles in Victorian and Colonial times?? <a class="user" href="http://www.mensactivism.org">http://www.mensactivism.org</a> is an incredible site, and it is the most well-written unbiased perspective on the men's equality movement on the Internet.

I'm agreeing with Gatesophile here. I'm a girl, I play video games, I get good grades. But the real problem is the education system. Someone needs to do some research. Or that kid just needs to go to a different school. Either way.Whatever. This story bored me, really. Interesting, but boring.Don't get it? Neither do I.

Guess what, people? I'm the only male in my house, and yet, I'm the smartest. But don't feel bad, these 3 I live with aren't stupid, either...

Did you think I like sitting still? NO. The thing is learn ahead of your grade, fiddle in class, and learn how to not get caught.I don't think gender has anything to do with intelligence, but the way a person is brought up and the way it affects how they believe who they are.
