abcnews.go.com — For the first time in a generation, girls outperformed boys on one section of the exam, edging them out by 11 points on the writing portion of the test. "I can look at the question I am being asked and put my own knowledge and thoughts in the essay, rather than filling out a bubble," said one tester.

what the heck were these girls doing out of the kitchen?

This is just a pointless discussion. Such statistical data maybe interesting to read or smirk at, but the SAT itself is not a reliable enough test to prove anything. But nevertheless,Girls rule! :P

So at what point do they start giving men scholarships for being a minority in college?

Can I say that we are missing the point that these scores have overall drop!Where do your state stand next to the other fifty+!How much did your state spend on the education and department for its results!Notice that the SAT is a snapshot census of the future workforce and the social gap !!Seem to me that the CENSUS people should pay for these test not the students.PS If this is the top performers of the state what does that say about the state ed system.

The school system is built more or less to discriminate agianst male students in the way they teach and some of the thinking skills they promote. I for one made the mistake of answering almost all the SAT questions, because I wanted to push for the right answer instead of just skipping it. The SAT and high school in general do not promote thinking, they promote input/output learning where you are basicly like a program that just spits out data without the ability to think.

In the UK, girls have outperformed boys for a decade. Here they're trying to make them more 'boy friendly'. I'd say that differences between the sexes are entirely to do with society and the education (and exam) system. Writing was once considered an important skill, but now that girls are better at it than boys, it's not so important anymore. I bet if girls were better at math than boys, math would no longer be considered important, either. You misogynists need to grow the f**k up.

I'm a former educator and it's been known for a long time that girls do better (on average) on essays than boys do. This should be no surprise. What really counts is how well one prepares. There are some free sites to help people prepare for the SAT Essay. One is http://www.sat-essay.net another is http://www.freesatessayprepcom
