It wasn't political entrapment, the whole country already knew that Clinton couldn't keep his dick in his pants even before they elected him in 92. If Clinton had answered "honestly" (as opposed to "truthfully") and admitted to it there would have been a minor scandal and that would have been the end of it. Instead Clinton chose to commit perjury (thinking he could use legalese for deniability) and set himself and the country on the path to impeachment.

Bill Clinton perjured himself and then used the Office of the President and every lawyer who worked in the White House and even the Cabinet to try to conceal his crime and avoid all consequences of his actions. Martha Stewart served time for less. Clinton got by with a $500,000 fine and the loss of his license to practice law in Arkansas. If he had settled with Paula Jones, he might have avoided all legal penalties ,but he preferred perjury to avoid paying a political price for a past action that he could have papered over without committing a crime.

fmaxwell, Clinton did lie under oath. He was dispostioned in a courtroom in front of the Grand Jury and gave his testimony and lied, exactly the same thing LIbby was convicted of and may do jail time as a consequence. Please check your facts before posting erroneous ones.

ElumEnopee Here are a few for you since you are so uninformed. You don't think there is a similar democrat list? Just look up every person the ACLU has defended for child porn or NAMBLA there is a couple thousand right there. Jackson, Farrakan, Sharpton, Byrd, Kennedy, ACLU, Air America, Al Franken, Soros, Sen. Only two Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to censure him in 1990.Former Sen. Brock Adams. The liberal Massachusetts senator testified in defense of nephew accused of rape, invoking his family history to win over the jury in 1991. Plus killed a womanThe ACLU supports child porn distribution and child molesters like NAMBLA.he ACLU’s position is this: criminalize the production but legalize the sale and distribution of child pornography. This is the kind of lawyerly distinction that no one on the Supreme Court found convincing. And with good reason: as long as a free market in child pornography exists, there will always be some producers willing to risk prosecution. Beyond this, there is also the matter of how the sale of child pornography relates either to free speech or the ends of good government. But most important, the central issue is whether a free society should legalize transactions that involve the wholesale sexploitation of children for profit.”New Jersey Democratic Governor Jim McGreevey – closeted homosexual extramarital affair Bill Clinton (D-AR) - Monica Lewinsky scandal (Gary Hart - Donna RiceFrederick William Richmond (born November 15, 1923) was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from New York.Fred Richmond was born in Boston, Massachusetts. . Newt acknowledged that he was having an affair. His wife had refused to join him in Washington when he was in congress. During that time he became enamoured with another woman. He stayed with his wife throughout her battle with cancer, and when she was well into remission he let her know of his plans to seek a divorce so he could marry his newfound love. Bill Clinton obstructed the investigation into his abuse of powers and the White Water scandal which left about 100 elderly people homeless. During that investigation it was discovered that he was having an affair with a young White House intern. Bill lied to America, to the courts, and was found to be guilty of perjury. He could have told everyone that his personal business would remain his personal business but he decided that a lie to all of America was the best course of action. I believe that his only regret was in being caught in one of his lies. I don't see the comparison. Maybe it has something to do with the definition of 'is'?

The thing that bothered me about President Clinton was not that he had sex, not that he had extramarital sex, and not that he lied about it (who wouldn't). It was that he chose an intern (over whom by definition he had power). A very young woman. A person with whom any contact whatsoever on his part should have been in a mentoring role. It was an abuse of power. It was scummy. As to Newt, let not your heart be troubled: his scandals will keep him out of elected office, as will Rudy's.

@ariastar:if i had to guess, i would say that the fact the clinton's wrongdoings occurred in the oval office, while newt's occurred somewhere outside of his job had something to do with it. if you were the CEO of a company and had sexual encounters with an intern in your office while on the job, you would be fired. if you had an affair at your house, you wouldn't be fired, not would it really be anyone's business. there is a difference there. sex on the job isn't allowed in any other line of work (save, perhaps, prostitution), why should it be acceptable for the president?

Actually, Gingrich may have committed a crime. Adultery is NOT legal in all places.Where did it take place? Virginia? Illegal. Maryland? Illegal. DC? Illegal. Georgia, Newt's home state? Illegal.
