@mdhensley: That's like citing "under God" from The Pledge of Allegiance. It has nothing to do with the way in which the ideas and principles the founders of this nation valued fermented over the centuries of political discourse and practice which preceded them. That individuals opted to add some Christian flare later on hardly speaks to the underlying fundamentals of the system.@ammunsden: I agree that democratic principles are a matter of debate and constant redefinition. My only point was that you can look at history and draw an evolutionary line that culminates in the ideas endorsed by the founding members of our nation. The same can not be said of religious principles. I may have mistakenly implied that liberal, democratic principles are static in practice when I only meant that they moved through history in a way consistent with the development of our countries founding documents.
