I think the reason cash is considered tacky is because it's generally assumed you pulled it out of your wallet 5 minutes before hand and stuck it in a card. It's like giving someone something you found in their driveway. Gift cards show at least a minimal amount of thought/effort was made. If you really want to give cash - get some crisp new bills from the bank and stick it in a money holder or card. Do something to show some forethought went into the present.

Crap. More crap. I have to go call my Son and find out if he's used the O'Reilly's gift card yet. He wanted a K&N filter for his Ninja, and they were out.

So true. If you're thinking of giving someone a gift card, just don't give them anything at all. If I wanted to buy something, I'd buy it myself. I don't need your thoughtless donation to afford a DVD at Best Buy. People have lost all understanding of what gift-giving (and gift-receiving) is supposed to be about. Just the fact that people fill the stores the day after Christmas to return gifts makes me f**king sick.

Why? So you could just buy the 'stuff' yourself?

I dunno I quite like getting gift cards, especially if it is for store I regularly shop in. You can choose want ever you like then - without having to smile sweetly if you have been given something you don't like.
