lifehacker.com — Democracy Player, BitTorrent, and TV Show RSS feeds are nothing new. Most of us know all about the software and solutions at hand. However Lifehacker offers a good guide for those who are new to this idea of downloading TV shows online and automatically subscribing to "season passes" kind of like a Tivo.

Last time I tried Democracy Player it almost trashed my PC.In fact, I tried it on two of my PC's and it did the same to both.

Definitely one of those software programs that has major issues still but everyone wishes it worked the way it says it does, however it simply doesn't. Beyond the obvious memory leaks, it has issues downloading data and often fails because of its horrible download engine. Also another major bug is that it frequently chooks when it comes to knowing which episodes have already been downloading. For instance I get error messages next to already downloaded episodes when I reload the software.Honestly if people are giving Microsoft crap for Vista being buggy as hell and unstable, this definitely gives the impression that OSS can fail just as miserably. I hope it also goes to show that the software license does not make the software, the programmers make the software.

there is a linux version available, yes. It's not that bad. (Personally I prefer PenguinTV, but that's only because I wrote it...)

Installed it again with false hopes. It blows pretty badly. That sucks because it looks slick and has a good idea behind it. I started downloading from an RSS feed and locked up my computer, said it would take 99 days to download one TV show, and I had to us Ctr+Alt+Delete to shut the damn thing down. Took that same RSS feed and put it into Utorrent and worked perfectly.
