abcnews.go.com — The German rock band Scorpions is bringing down the curtain on a career spanning more than four decades. The band, known for its early 1990s hit "Wind of Change" among others, said on its Web site Sunday that "we agree we have reached the end of the road."

I think the greatest contribution the Scorpions ever made to the world is their infamous 'Virgin Killer' album cover.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_KillerIt is probably suitable for work, however, if any band tried to release this album today, they would have major legal hurdles in doing so.

Scorpions was the band that made me appreciate rock. I was just 11-12 at the time when Wind of Change was a hit. I liked it so much I started buying their other albums, then eventually started to listen to metal, like Metallica (that was early in the '90s), then Iron Maiden and all kind of other metal bands.Scorpions kind of lost their style after the face the heat album, but still, it will remain a very influential band.

I know exactly what the song is about. I lived in W. Germany for a while shortly after the wall came down. If you've ever seen the music video, which, as I alluded to I have about a million times, you can't avoid the song's "meaning". My point was that the song shares a common theme with Dylan's song: rapid and significant cultural change. But while Dylan's lyrics were poetic, Winds of Change sounded like a Hallmark card.

Lemmy makes a point...all this genre inventing to explain the same thing. It's all rock and roll. It's all about getting women and drinking and having a good time, in one way or another...and that's what Rock and Roll's all about.

I've wanted to see them live for a long. Hopefully I'll get the chance before they drop the curtain.

So sad.But they did some great things for rock. And I suppose we can appreaciate the want to go out when it's good.
