Ok, I see I'm being dugg down. With the above comment I meant that military victory has no value if the sphere of influence of the winning country decreases. By agreeing with French president's peace plan, the Russians agreed to allow international peacekeeping troops into South Ossetia and Abkhazia and to resolve the conflict with international cooperation. Their influence in the region has significantly decreased.
No doubt the Georgian administration provoked this, and I am sure they have their own selfish reasons. I suspect they hoped to drag the US, and Europe into a showdown that would somehow help their position with the west. Whatever they tried, they managed to get Russia to lay waste to their cities and look like a bull in a china shop. Russians are smart and ambitious, but I have never heard anyone say they were subtle or forebearing.
Buried. Two of Georgian players are not even Georgian before 2 years ago. They are Brazilians, and just visited Georgia twice in their life. They don't even live in Georgia.
